Anthony Joshua doubled down on his much-discussed comments about being prepared to “kill” Jake Paul during a press event in Miami on Wednesday.

His words were initially uttered on Tuesday when the boxer was questioned if he would hold back against the social media star, replying that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

The upcoming fight against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has sparked debate over safety concerns and the physical disparity between the two competitors.

Tyson Fury Labels Joshua a “Disgrace”

Former titleholder Tyson Fury labeled Joshua a “disgrace” for his inflammatory language.

But the 36-year-old fighter, justified his position: “This is my profession, we fight. We have a license that permits extreme violence.

“I understand many people don't understand it but this is what my job is. I take pleasure in what I do. The outcome, happens - as long as my hand is held high, that's what's paramount, respectfully.”

He continued, “That's just the mentality we have to have as fighters. I don't know if other boxers think that way. Maybe they're a bit more conservative. The way my mind works. When you're in the ring, it's a dangerous thing. Anything can happen.”

“You pray your opponent leaves the ring unharmed, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed knowing you just did your job. It was purely professional.”

Paul's Fiery Response

Paul, a huge underdog in the fight as a natural cruiserweight, was equally combative in his retort.

“This is a modern day gladiator sport,” Paul said. “I'm prepared. I want his hardest punches. I want there to be no excuses when it's all said and done. We should kill each other.”

Joshua will face his opponent, in his twenties, at Florida's Kaseya Center in a fight many see as a major mismatch, with some arguing it should have been sanctioned as an exhibition bout.

The professional contest will be fought over 8 3-minute stanzas using regular 10oz padded gloves, with a stipulated weight limit for the former champion.

Joshua Claims He Was “Brought In to Rescue” Boxing

Despite the graphic language used, Joshua suggested he has been “called in to save” boxing.

“They want me to put an end to the Jake Paul show and I understand it and that's why I have to carry boxing on my back in this bout,” he added.

The news conference also had more humorous exchanges, with Joshua laughing as Paul sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The final staredown passed peacefully, with the underdog striking a odd pose before Joshua stayed calm and playfully grabbed Paul's necklace.

Paul & Joshua Dismiss Scripted Allegations

The surreal nature of this fight has led to rumors about its authenticity, including claims that Joshua may be restricted from scoring a knockout.

“There are no clauses in the agreement, AJ can attest to it. We're going to war,” Paul insisted.

Joshua, sporting a expensive chain, jokingly remarked, “The only thing in the agreement that got my interest was the payment.”

Paul has claimed on his platforms that the total purse will be exceptionally large.

Biggest Upset in Sport's History?

Jake Paul first gained fame as an online prankster, amassing a huge social media following.

He has not faced anyone of Joshua's calibre but maintained that his opponent would take him seriously.

“It's a wise move on his part,” he said. “This could possibly be, and will be, the greatest loss of his career.”

A victory for Paul would be arguably the biggest upset in the sport's history.

It would undoubtedly leave an indelible stain on Joshua's legacy, but the fighter stated it would not mean retirement.

“I would come back again, move on,” he remarked. “I'll be headlining again in a couple of years. That's life. I'm a competitor in the sport.”
