Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

This news arrives less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in shaping form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
