Israelis have come together around the country to mark two years since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations advanced in Egypt over a conclusion to the war in Gaza.

The incident resulted in in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as hostages. It was the single deadliest day for Jewish people since the Second World War.

Israel answered by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are seen as accurate by the UN and other world agencies.

"The aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," the prime minister added on that day.

He also promised to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the release of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will never again create a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled formal memorials until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still occurred throughout the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the families of people who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was held in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was aired throughout Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was respected around the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams met in the North African coastal city of the Egyptian city for a follow-up session of indirect talks to review the conditions of the proposal.

A high-ranking representative familiar with the talks said that an night meeting of negotiations commenced at evening in Egypt.

The source explained the morning session ended without concrete outcomes, because of disagreements over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not resume hostilities after the first phase of the agreement.

He added that the negotiations are "tough and have not yet produce any major advancement," but mentioned that mediators are making efforts to reduce the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Critical Issues in Talks

  • A lasting truce
  • The exchange of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies deliveries
  • After-conflict management of the territory

Citizen Reaction

In the city's public square earlier, young a woman - whose brother endured the incident on the gathering, where many attendees were murdered and numerous more were captured by Hamas militants - explained: "No location appears as home any longer and until every captive come back none of us will be secure."

"Once we see everybody home returned, we can breathe anew. Then we can start to rebuild," she continued.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their support for the relatives of the captives. Israel says forty-eight remain in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Demonstrator one woman explained: "It's necessary do any agreement required for the captives to return. But we really want assurances that we will be protected."

Surveys now consistently show that around the majority of Israeli citizens prefer the hostilities to end in as payment for the freedom of the captives.

Palestinian Conditions

At the area of the music event, mourners gathered to remember the victims.

From there, the sound of military attacks and shelling could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people reported the heavy Israeli attacks carried on.

In the urban center, attacks were documented in the early hours of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and Nasr districts and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"As the night comes, the fear appears with it," displaced urban resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was killed by an Israeli bombing previously, explained.

"We are fearful of the bombings. During nighttime we are resting together, clinging, particularly my little child who rests his head on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we monitor the updates to see the situation. And I'm worried that this halt will not be completed and that the fighting will resume to us."

Health Situation

The medical facility in Gaza City announced it had accepted the corpses of several people by the afternoon, including three who died in an Israeli bombing in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of that area indicated additional dead people had been transported. A person was lost his life by Israeli troops while attempting to get assistance to the southern area, health workers reported.

The region's health ministry announced 25 of the {territ
