Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Strives to Fix the Anime's Most Significant Debate

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an brand-new movie. Rather, the recent movie from the Jujutsu Kaisen fantasy saga is a compilation of the series' second installment stitched together with the first two episodes of its next season, which begins the Culling Games storyline from the original manga. This makes Execution, which recently received a new trailer, the earliest way to view the commencement of the next season ahead of its 2026 January debut. The movie premieres in cinemas in Japan starting November 7, and in North American regions on December 5.

The Culling Games Storyline

In the Culling Games plot, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the television series and is tasked by jujutsu higher-ups to execute his classmate Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight occurs for the initial time on the cinema screen, and if the artists at the production house have something as special as episodes 40 and 41 prepared for audiences this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may prove to be the surprise that everyone has hoped for.

The "Thunderclap" Controversy

"Thunderclap episodes" from season 2 is often hailed as among the best moments in animated series lore, notwithstanding the significant debate in last year when the installments originally aired. It was claimed that the animation team were facing tight schedules to the extent, and the final version that was shown at the time was incomplete and allegedly not what the team originally planned.

The Epic Battle

The episode showcases a long-awaited battle between two strong jujutsu users, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It features experimental animation, excellent direction, and dynamic fight choreography. A subsequent home video edition provided an opportunity to include extra footage to enhance the battle. So it was plausible Execution could improve the battle even more. However, looking at the recent teaser, it's hard to tell if that battle has undergone further polishing. It'd be a disappointment if it didn't, because a moment so epic has to be experienced on the biggest screen with the finest quality available.

Season Two Success

The sophomore season of JuJutsu Kaisen boosted the show to become the award-winning series of 2024, and when the Thunderclap episodes were released back to back, it was the focus of attention for an extended period in the animation fandom. Fans knew about the problems with the production, which made them value what they viewed even more. People eagerly awaited to see if the home release, made available on March 18, would include new footage to the fight or to see if it was polished at all, and were elated to see precisely that, alongside tone adjustments, enhanced animation, and revised visual style.

The Movie's Opportunity

But the physical release can only touch up what has already been presented in the television version, whereas the movie has the opportunity to fully realize the scene with further changes and new animations entirely.

A Masterpiece

Currently, these two episodes act as the masterpiece of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be treated as such by the studio, particularly given the issues they underwent at the time. It's drawn the focus of anime fans all over the planet, and the Culling Games is one of the most anticipated anime arcs of the following year. If the production company wants to kick off the year perfectly, run back the show's top scene once again in cinemas with the ultimate presentation we've experienced so far.
