Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
