'Our Mission Involves Exclusively Eliminating' - How The Sudanese Vicious Militia Carried out a Mass Killing

Warning: This Story Presents Disturbing Accounts of Executions.

Combatants laugh as they travel on the rear of a pick-up truck, hurrying by a row of nine corpses and heading in the direction of the descending Sudan's sun.

"Look at all this accomplishment. Observe this mass destruction," a combatant cheers.

He grins as he directs the recording device on himself and his associate militiamen, their RSF insignia visible: "They are all going to be killed in this manner."

The men are celebrating a massacre that humanitarian officials suspect resulted in the deaths of in excess of 2,000 civilians in the Sudanese metropolis of the Darfur city last month.

A City Isolated from the Outside

After maintaining the urban area under siege for approximately an extended period, from the summer the RSF advanced to consolidate its position and restrict the surviving inhabitants.

Space-based imagery show that forces started to erect a massive sand wall - a raised sand barrier - around the boundaries of the city, closing access routes and halting relief supplies.

As the siege intensified, seventy-eight people were slain in an RSF attack on a mosque on mid-September, while the UN said dozens further were murdered in unmanned aircraft and heavy weapon attacks on a displacement camp in fall.

Disturbing Recording Shows Defenseless Individuals Executed

At dawn on 26 October the RSF defeated the remaining military strongholds and took control of the central compound in the urban area, the main facility of the Army Division, as the government forces retreated.

Among the most horrific footage to appear and examined showed the aftermath of a atrocity at a university building on the western of the urban area, where scores lifeless forms were visible spread throughout the ground.

A senior individual wearing a robe sat alone amongst the bodies. The individual turned to gaze as a fighter carrying with a weapon moved descending the staircase in the direction of the victim. Raising his weapon, the fighter released a solitary round at the victim, who collapsed to the ground motionless.

"Why is this individual still alive," a combatant exclaimed. "Execute this one."

Space-based imagery recorded on October 26th appeared to confirm that killings were also conducted on the streets of the city, as reported by a study published by the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab.

One witness who communicated said the individual had seen "many of our kin getting executed - they were collected in one place and each one murdered."

Militia Leaders Seek to Carry Out Public Relations

In the days that came after the killings, militia leader conceded that his forces had carried out "wrongdoings" and said the incidents would be investigated.

Included among apprehended was after a report detailing his murders. Carefully orchestrated and modified video posted on the militia's formal social media account depict the individual being escorted into a prison room at a detention facility on the perimeter of al-Fashir.

Meanwhile, the paramilitary force and connected social media profiles began trying to reframe the narrative.

Updates depicting its combatants providing supplies to civilians were disseminated by various individuals, while the paramilitary's media office released several clips claiming to display the humane treatment of army captives.

In spite of the online campaign being deployed by the militia, their conduct in al-Fashir have sparked global outrage.
