Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
