Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach commented.

“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Problems and Squad Response

The manager highlighted known failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with performances like these.”

Jones finished, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
