The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign which brought continental glory and ending the club's long wait for three decades, has since taken on positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would embrace the notion that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he told the podcast host: “I stated I won't manage any other side within the country. So that means should it be the Reds...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, it's not necessary. I can just see what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances must arise to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; No need for interviews four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. We won a lot of games meaning regularly positive atmosphere around the place. I still have Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, praising him due to the changes that took the title last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision together with his sibling recently.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the squad without him in it. Putting it into words is tough about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad as well. No one within the club will ever use it to justify results though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it emotionally is difficult. Unbearable.”
