Thrice-crowned award winner Jokic suffers a 'devastating' leg setback.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee as the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half during an unintentional contact with fellow Nugget Jones.
Jones landed on the footwear of the MVP, who instantly collapsed to the court holding his leg.
The 30-year-old, that tops the NBA season in rebounds and assists, recorded a score of 21 points and eight assists in the contest before suffering the setback.
He will undergo an scan on the following day to assess the extent of the problem.
"Right away, Jokic understood he was hurt," said Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Whoever who suffers an injury, it's tough to see, particularly somebody as important as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on together. Of course, right now, I am focused primarily about him personally and the disappointment of experiencing an event of that nature."
