What We Know Regarding the Fatalities of the Bondi Terror Attack
No fewer than 16 individuals lost their lives and more than 40 were wounded when gunmen opened fire at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, a tragedy Australian police are describing as a terrorist attack.
In the latest update, officials have stated the number of fatalities remains at 16, which includes one of the suspected attackers. Furthermore, 42 people with injuries were admitted to medical facilities.
The victims are still awaiting publicly named, but authorities state their ages are between 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Known as a father of five children, he served as the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and friends described him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member asked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.
She told the events leading up to the shooting, stating they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.
The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having endured immense hardship in their youth. They had later moved to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
Publicly, the Foreign Minister said that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the statement continued.
One Child
A child who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
One victim from Israel was among those killed during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospital, a significant number remain receiving treatment, with a number in a critical state. The injured include two officers who attended the scene.
A casualty is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Reports indicate he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.
In a message, he described the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also noted the actions of those who rushed to help. He stated he believed it was a “miracle” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the attack. He told reporters he heard “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.
“I thought it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I was hit. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
